Like bolts holding together the steel plates of this smokestack, Sloss has held together the City of Birmingham.

The Magic City did not get its name by “magic.” Its overnight success was thanks to those who gave everything they had, their blood, sweat, and tears, at steel manufacturing plants across the city. Many city dwellers drive by this iconic landmark daily, but never stop to think they are here because @sloss_furnaces is here.

Time has not been kind to this historic landmark. A century of erosion and neglect has left it rusting away, piece by piece.

Drone technology has made the inspection of this facility easier, lending a more cost effective way to preserve the great relic. The best way to preserve it, though, is by your patronage.

If you have never visited, make a day of exploring the tunnels and towers of this landmark. Get a taste of the past by pouring your own cast iron fire pit at a @slossmetalarts workshop, or experience one of the great events hosted here throughout the year.
