We’re the Bell Radio Company.
Originally a call sign for J.C. Bell’s 960AM radio station, the Birmingham Broadcast Company adopted the WBRC name in 1928. In 1949 WBRC-TV hit the airwaves; making it the second oldest broadcast tv news station in the state of Alabama.
Situated on Red Mountain between @visitvulcan and @theclubbham, the neon letters have been an icon in the Magic City for decades.
Photographing the sign was quite a task. The sign is in restricted airspace, and FAA regulations only permit flight for the duration of civil twilight, 30 minutes past sunset.
(Regulatory note: I did obtain authorization to fly in this airspace, and I landed the drone 2 minutes before the end of civil twilight)
